Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington and Lee scored three goals in the second half to defeat McDaniel 5-2 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday.
Mary Guest (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) led the Green Terror (3-8) with a goal in the ninth minute.
Maggie Waxter paced the Generals (8-4) with two goals and two assists.
After a back-and-forth first half, Lauen Paolano dove to get a stick on a feed from Waxter, tipping the ball in for a 3-2 edge 14:47 into the second half.
Kendall Peterson finished a pass from Allie DiPietro on a corner in the 57th minute to push the lead to 4-2 before Waxter finished from Peterson on a redirect just three minutes later.
Guest opened the scoring, tipping in a Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) hard hit from the top of the circle on a corner for a 1-0 lead just 8:16 into the game.
Waxter tipped in a hard hit from Paolano on the left endline to even the score in the 18th minute.
Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) finished herself in a 2-on-1 breakaway situation to put McDaniel back in front 2-1 with 3:41 to play in the opening half.
Camilla Davis tipped in a Waxter pass just over two minutes later to once again deadlock the game.
Washington and Lee finished with a slim 15-11 edge in shots while the Green Terror held the edge in penalty corners, 9-7.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Stevenson on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
