Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored on both of its first-half shots, defeating Dickinson 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.
Haley VanNostrand (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) staked the Green Terror (3-7, 2-3 CC) to a 1-0 game on the game's first shot in the 14th minute.
Catherine Pulmutter took five shots for the Red Devils (6-4, 3-2 CC), who finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots for the game.
On a counter off a Dickinson penalty corner, Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) took the ball down the left side of the field before finding VanNostrand in front of the goal. The senior knocked the ball into a wide-open side of the cage for a 1-0 lead.
Nearly 12 minutes later, Jensyn Koontz (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) sent the ball in from the right side. Emily Houska (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) collected it in the center of the circle and lifted it into the cage for a 2-0 lead.
The McDaniel defense took over in the second half, thwarting 10 Red Devil shots. Elizabeth Collyer (Rock Hall, Md./Kent County) backstopped the defense with seven saves while Emily Farrell (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) added a pair of defensive saves.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington and Lee on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
