ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Brandon Vance (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) posted a round of 69 on Saturday to key a two-round score of 141 and win his second straight individual title, leading McDaniel to a second-place finish at its own Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic in men's golf action on Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Terror posted a 36-hole score of 594 to finish second to Kenyon by five strokes at The Bridges Golf Club. The Lords fired a tournament-record round of 290 on Saturday before posting a round of 299 on Sunday to finish with the lowest score in the six-year history of the event (589).
Vance matched the tournament record on Saturday with a round of 69 in rainy conditions to sleep on a one-stroke lead and lead his squad to a round of 297, which trailed Kenyon by seven shots.
The junior followed that up with an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes to post a career-low 36-hole total and win by two shots over Gettysburg's Danny Harcourt, who posted a 71 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday.
Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) finished tied for fifth on the weekend with a score of 147. He fired a round of 74 over the first 18 holes before carding a round of 73 on Sunday.
Christian Garruppo (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Prep) finished 18th overall with a score of 152. He turned in a round of 77 over the first 18 holes before posting a score of 75 over the final 18.
Shawn MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass./St. Mary's Lynn) placed 29th on the weekend after posting a score of 154, firing matching rounds of 77 each day.
Mason Woolford (Pasadena, Md./Severna Park) posted a round of 79 on Saturday but was disqualified from Sunday's round after signing an incorrect scorecard.
Kevin Keane (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), playing as an individual, matched Norwitz for fifth place. He posted a score of 73 on Saturday before registering a score of 74 on Sunday.
Matt Cramer (New Market, Md./Oakdale) was also in the field as an individual, finishing with a two-day score of 161, posting a score of 82 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.
McDaniel concludes the fall schedule at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17 and 18.
