Gibson scores twice to open CC slate with win

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 5-0 win over Muhlenberg in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer opener for both teams on Saturday.

Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) led the Green Terror (7-0, 1-0 CC) with a pair of goals.

Jen Mermelstein led the Mules (0-5-1, 0-1 CC) in goal with three saves in the first half while Tori Gonzalez made one stop in the second half.

Gibson opened the scoring, finishing a pass from Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) at the 16:22 mark.

Gibson then found Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) just 52 seconds later to double the lead.

Wroblewski finished a Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) assist in the 22nd minute to make it a 3-0 game.

That advantage held until Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damscus) beat the defense and put a ball into the left side of the net in the 84th minute.

Gibson set the final margin, scoring on a 1-on-1 just over five minutes later.

McDaniel finished with a 24-6 advantage in shots while Muhlenberg had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Frostburg on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
