Gooding posts third shutout in victory

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – McDaniel scored twice in the first half to defeat Washington and Lee 2-0 in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday.

Christina Gooding (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) registered her third shutout of the season for the Green Terror (5-0), who start a season 5-0 for the first time since 2003. She made seven saves on the day.

Jacqueline Llewellyn led the Generals (2-3) with nine saves at the other end.

Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) put McDaniel on the board in the 19th minute, scoring from five yards out for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) doubled the advantage with 1:34 to play, knocking home a Yore shot off the post.

McDaniel finished with a 17-15 edge in shots while Washington and Lee had a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
