ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Claire Lawson (McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville) won the 400 hurdles in program-record time to lead McDaniel at the 2015 Centennial Conference (CC) women's outdoor track and field championship hosted by Muhlenberg on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As a team, the Green Terror finished ninth with 16 points. Johns Hopkins won the team title with 157 points.
Lawson qualified second in the 400 hurdles, turning in a time of 1:04.14 in Saturday's prelims. She came back on Sunday to lower her program record to a time of 1:02.23 and win the program's first gold medal in the event since 1997. Her time also currently ranks 10th on the NCAA Division III performance list.
Lawson was also fourth in the finals of the 100 hurdles, posting an ECAC-qualifying time of 15.70 seconds. She also joined Chloe Allen-Gorman (Portland, Ore./Lincoln), Avalon McOmber (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and Kelsey Minyon (Millville, Del./Indian River) to run an ECAC-qualifying time of 10:03.11 and finish eighth in the 4x800 relay.
Lawson and Allen-Gorman joined Shantae Byro (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) and Kelly Gibson (Yardley, Pa./Pennington [N.J.]) to finish 10th in the 4x400 relay (4:22.98).
Allen-Gorman also finished 16th in the 800 with a time of 2:22.81 while Byro was 12th in the 200 (27.11 seconds).
Amelia Lawrence (Cabin John, Md./Walt Whitman) rounded out competitors on the track for McDaniel, finishing 15th in the 10,000 on Friday with a time of 42:42.23.
Arielle Latourette (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and Byro finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the triple jump. Latourette jumped 10.24 meters while Byro's best jump was 10.04 meters. Latourette was also 12th in the long jump (4.90).
Danielle Fatzinger (North Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) was ninth in the pole vault, clearing 2.44 meters. She also finished 13th in the javelin (27.46) and 18th in the discus (24.50).
The Green Terror returns to action at the ECAC Championship hosted by Springfield on May 14-15.
