CANTON, N.Y. – Claire Lawson (McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville) finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 2015 NCAA Division III women's outdoor track and field championship hosted by St. Lawrence on Thursday.
With the seventh-place showing, Lawson advanced to Saturday's finals in the event. If the junior finishes in the top eight in the finals, she will earn All-America status.
Running in lane two of the second of three heats, Lawson crossed second in her heat with a time of 1:01.87, resetting her own program record. The three heat winners were automatically advanced to the finals before the next six best times from the remaining 19 runners rounded out the field of nine for Saturday.
After all three heats finished, Lawson was fourth among the remaining athletes to earn a spot in the finals as the seventh seed.
Race time on Saturday is set for 3:20 p.m.
