HAVERFORD, Pa. – Jordan Birden (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) took bronze in the triple jump – one of four events in which he scored points – to lead McDaniel to a ninth-place finish at the 2015 Centennial Conference (CC) Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Haverford on Saturday and Sunday.
As a team, the Green Terror recorded 24 points. Johns Hopkins won the team title with 205 points, running away from Haverford, which finished with 157 points.
Birden jumped 13.09 meters to take the bronze in the triple jump. He was also sixth in the high jump (1.83 meters) and 60 hurdles (9.37 seconds). Birden qualified seventh in the prelims with a time of 9.17 seconds, which ranks fourth all-time.
Birden rounded out his day with a seventh-place showing in the long jump, leaping 6.13 meters.
Individually, Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.42 meters. He also placed sixth in the heptathlon with 3,363 points.
In the heptathlon, Dunn finished first in the shot put with a toss of 13.32 meters. It was also his second-best point total with 687 points. His best point total came with a second-place showing in the 60 with a time of 7.50 seconds and 713 points.
Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) finished 11th in the mile with a time of 4:34.24 while Alex Panagakos (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) was 12th in the 400 with a time of 52.99 seconds.
Loi Nguyen (Crofton, Md./South River) and Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) added 13th-place finishes in their respective events. Nguyen placed 13th in the 60 with a time of 7.80 seconds while Jones was 13th in the 800 in a time of 2:03.79.
Jones, Heilman, Panagakos and John Alexander (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) joined to finish seventh in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:42.26.
Brandon Creyer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area), Ian Armstrong (Tallyville, Del./Brandywine) and Luis Miramontes (San Jose, Calif./San Jose) rounded out the McDaniel competitors in the shot put.
Creyer finished 18th (11.51 meters) while Armstrong was 22nd (10.68) and Miramontes was 24th (9.87).
The Green Terror opens the outdoor season at the Battleground Relays hosted by Mary Washington on Mar. 17-18.
