CARLISLE, Pa. – Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) finished third in both the shot put and high jump to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson in men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.
The Green Terror had four different athletes earn points in individual events for the team's 30 points. Messiah won the 11-team invitational with 171 points.
Dunn hit the Centennial Conference (CC) standard in the shot put with a toss of 13.57 meters. He also cleared 1.58 meters in the high jump for his top finishes on a five-event day. Dunn also placed 10th in the pole vault (2.15 meters) and 18th in the long jump (5.02). He also ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay, which finished 12th with a time of 4:15.60.
Three other McDaniel athletes hit the conference-qualifying mark in the shot put. Ian Armstrong (Tallyville, Del./Brandywine) finished 12th with a throw of 11.59 meters while Brandon Creyer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) was 13th with a toss of 11.57. Connor Heavner (Frederick, Md./Urbana) rounded out the quartet with a 15th-place finish and throw of 11.18.
Loi Nguyen (Crofton, Md./South River) also had a busy day. In addition to joining Dunn on the relay, he finished 12th in the 55 with a time of 7.09 seconds, which converts to a CC-qualifying time in the 60. He also finished fifth in the triple jump, hitting the conference mark with a jump of 11.23 meters. He was also 11th in the long jump (5.37 meters) and 23rd in the 200 (26.39 seconds).
Alex Panagakos (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) placed sixth in the 400, leading the way on the track with a CC-qualifying time of 53.66 seconds.
Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) was also sixth in the mile with a CC-qualifying time of 4:34.37.
Merkel and Panagakos joined Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) and John Alexander (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) to finish second in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:29.67.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday.
