McDonald makes four saves in semis

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Just 11 days earlier, Johns Hopkins and McDaniel played an even game. The Blue Jays edged out a one-goal double-overtime win.

On Saturday, the two teams met in a rematch in the Centennial Conference (CC) semifinals at Swarthmore. The game may have been an even closer battle than the regular-season matchup. However, once again, Johns Hopkins prevailed with a 1-0 win to advance to Sunday's championship match.

Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) made four saves in goal to pace the 24th-ranked Green Terror (15-2-2), who will wait until Monday to find out its postseason fate. McDaniel was ranked third in the latest NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional rankings and could have done enough to earn an at-large bid into the tournament. The NCAA tournament field will be announced at 1 p.m. with the ECAC selections to follow.

Clara Araguren also made four saves for the Blue Jays (13-4-1), who will go for their 12th CC championship on Sunday.

After a foul was called just outside the box, Hallie Horvath sent the ball from the top-left corner to the far side of the box. Adrienne Johnson one-timed the shot into the back of the net for the game's first and only goal with 13:59 to play in regulation.

Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) nearly evened the game fewer than two-and-a-half minutes later, hitting the right post off a restart. Quinn finished with a team-high four shots.

McDaniel finished with a slim 15-13 edge in shots.
