ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Brandon Vance (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) shot a one-under par 71 on Sunday to finish even par for 36 holes, leading McDaniel to a second-place finish at its own Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic in men's golf action on Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Terror combined to card a round of 298 on Sunday – one of seven sub-300 rounds in the tournament that included six rounds of 299 or better over the second 18 holes at The Bridges Golf Club, site of the 2016 Centennial Conference championship. McDaniel posted a round of 302 on Saturday to finish with a score of 600, nine strokes behind Allegheny. The Gators won the 15-team field behind rounds of 296 and 295, respectively.
Vance posted a round of 73 on Saturday to sit second after one round before carding his first collegiate sub-par round on Sunday. Allegheny's Jesse Clemente, who fired a 74 on Saturday, roared back with a tournament record-tying round of 69 on Sunday to edge Vance by one stroke for individual medalist honors.
Chris Binet (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Twp.) finished 15th in the field with a score of 151 that included posting a round of 74 on Sunday. He registered a round of 77 over the first 18 holes.
Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) matched Binet on Sunday but shot a 78 on Saturday to finish the weekend with score of 152 to place 19th.
Tim LaSarso Jr. (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and Mason Woolford (Pasadena, Md./Severna Park) finished as part of a tie for 37th place with matching 36-hole totals of 155. Each carded rounds of 76 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.
Andrew Gordon (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) and Shawn MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass./St. Mary's Lynn) competed as individuals for the Green Terror. Gordon finished 62nd with a score of 161 (81-80) while MacBurnie was 67 with a score of 163 (84-79).
McDaniel will send individuals to the Stevenson Invitational on Saturday to conclude the fall season.
