Gooding makes 13 saves

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ursinus scored five times in the first half en route to a 7-0 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.

Christina Gooding (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) established a new career high for the Green Terror (6-4, 1-3 CC), making 13 saves in goal.

Devin Brakel and Amber Steigerwalt led the eighth-ranked Bears (7-2, 3-1 CC) with two goals each.

Off a corner in the ninth minute, Danielle Stong slid the ball across the cage to Samantha Macchio, who scored for a 1-0 lead.

Just over four minutes later, Colleen Leahy hit Steigerwalt to double the advantage.

Leahy then knocked home a rebound in the 25th minute before Brakel dribble to the right side and fired home just 1:07 later for a 4-0 lead.

Steigerwalt made it a 5-0 game just 3:40 before the break.

Stong knocked in a Leahy pass from the top of the arc on a corner in the 54th minute and Brakel tipped in a Stong blast from the top in the 61st minute for the final margin.

Ursinus finished with advantages of 27-2 in shots and 13-0 in penalty corners.

The Green Terror returns to action at Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
