Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford scored three straight goals to overcome an early deficit and defeat McDaniel 5-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.
Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored twice to lead the Green Terror (7-8, 2-6 CC), matching the program record for career goals with 35 in just her first two seasons. Her 19 goals this season is the most in a single season in program history.
Elena Veale led the Fords (9-6, 6-2 CC) into the conference tournament with a hat trick.
Yore found Melissa Cohen (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) just 2:06 into the game for a 1-0 lead.
Just 2:24 later, Sarah Waldis evened the score with an unassisted.
Veale put the visitors in front in the ninth minute before converting a penalty stroke 12:34 later for a 3-1 lead.
Yore closed the deficit to 3-2 in the 28th minute.
Just 4:02 into the second half, Veale completed her hat trick to reestablish the two-goal edge.
Paige Carson added a fifth Haverford marker in the 64th minute before Yore scored her 19th of the year with 3:52 remaining to break Paige Messersmith's 2012 record and match Kim Camponelli's career record from 2000-03.
Christina Gooding (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) made eight saves in goal for the Green Terror.
Haverford finished with a 20-8 advantage in shots and 11-8 edge in penalty corners.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
