MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) finished third to lead McDaniel to a second-place finish at the Bud Smitley Invitational hosted by Penn State-Harrisburg in men's cross country action on Friday.
Heilman finished the wet 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:10 to break up a string of six straight Lebanon Valley finishers at the top. The Dutchmen won the invitational with 18 points while the Green Terror posted a team score of 51.
Thomas Runner (Elkridge, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) made it two McDaniel runners in the midst of a gaggle of LVC harriers, crossing eighth in a time of 21:32.
Alex Panagakos (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) crossed 17th (22:48) and 18th (22:51), respectively.
Kyle Crouse (Keymar, Md./Francis Scott Key) rounded out the Green Terror's top five, finishing 21st with a time of 23:34.
Cryus Darwoolla (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished 23rd with a time of 24:04 while Ian Yoshioka (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) crossed 25th in a time of 24:16.
Wade Bishop (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) rounded out the McDaniel competitors in 28th place (25:09).
The Green Terror returns to action at the Charger Invitational hosted by Lancaster Bible on Saturday, Oct. 10. Action begins at 11 a.m.
