BIG SPRING, Pa. – Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) finished 42nd to lead McDaniel at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational in men's cross country action on Saturday.
Running in just the 4,000-meter race, the Green Terror finished 14th among the 35 teams that competed in the race. Lock Haven finished with a perfect 10 points to win that half of the invitational.
Merkel turned in the best time in program history on the course with a time of 12:49.55, bettering his previous best by nearly 22 seconds.
Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) finished 76th overall in the race with a time of 13:15.65, ranking fifth on the program's all-time list for the Big Spring High School course. It also bettered his own personal best on the course by 44 seconds.
Calvin Ball (Westminster, Md./Westminster) placed 82nd on the day with Green Terror's No. 7 all-time mark on the course with a time of 13:18.62.
John Alexander (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) placed 110th with a time f 13:34.10 to rank ninth all-time.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Penn State-Harrisburg Invitational on Oct. 3. Action begins at 10:30 a.m.
