Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored the game's first two goals and staved off Muhlenberg for a 2-1 victory in the Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey opener for both teams on Friday.
Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored the game's first goal, staking the Green Terror (5-2, 1-0 CC) to a halftime advantage.
Alyssa Scott scored the lone goal for the Mules (4-2, 0-1 CC), converting on a penalty corner at the 55:44 mark.
Muhlenberg carried play in the first half, outshooting McDaniel 12-0 and drawing 12 corners to the hosts' zero but it was the Green Terror who had a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.
Yore converted on a breakaway down the left side of the field, sliding a ball into the far side of the cage at the 19:02 mark.
Haley VanNostrand (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) put back an Annie Sencindiver (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) shot-and-save on a scramble in front of the cage off a penalty corner in the 45th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Off a corner in the 56th minute, the ball got played back down low to Samantha Swire, who centered a ball to Scott. Scott was able to finish in the upper-right corner of the cage to close the deficit to 2-1.
The Mules finished with advantages of 15-8 in shots and 15-5 in penalty corners.
Caila White (Delmar, Md./Delmar) made nine saves, including eight in the first half.
McDaniel returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday, Sept. 27. Game time is 1 p.m.
