Tanen finishes 21st to open fall

VERONA, N.Y. – Steven Tanen (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) fired a 54-hole score of 230 to finish 21st overall and lead McDaniel to a ninth-place finish at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in season-opening men's golf action on Sunday and Monday.

The Green Terror were among two Division III teams competing at the primarily Division I tournament hosted by the University of Missouri at Turning Stone Resort on the 7,105-yard, par-71 Kaluhyat Course.

As a team, McDaniel posted a three-round score of 941, carding a 317 in Sunday's opening round before improving to shoot a round of 312 in the afternoon round. The Green Terror matched the Sunday afternoon round with another round of 312 to close the tournament on Monday.

Missouri won its own tournament for the fourth time with a score of 870 (300-285-285).

Tanen was the lone McDaniel player to play three rounds in the 70s, firing a round of 77 to open play before carding a round of 75 in the afternoon and a round of 78 on Monday

James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) matched Tanen with the Green Terror's best round of the weekend, posting a score of 75 on Monday to finish with his 54-hole score of 234 to finish 32nd. He carded a round of 80 on Sunday morning and a round of 79 on Sunday afternoon.

Mason Woolford (Pasadena, Md.) placed 38th overall with a score of 239. Woolford carded a round of 79 on Sunday afternoon and posted rounds of 80 on either side.

Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) posted a score of 240 to finish 40th. He matched Woolford on Sunday before posting a round of 81 on Monday.

Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished 49th with a score of 248 (85-84-79).

The Green Terror returns to New York on Saturday and Sunday, competing in the St. John Fisher Collegiate Invitational at Mendon Golf Club.
