Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Frostburg scored with 10 seconds remaining in the first overtime to defeat McDaniel 2-1 in season-opening field hockey action on Friday.
Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored the equalizer for the Green Terror (0-1) to force the extra session.
Courtney Abell tallied the game-winner for the Bobcats (1-0), finishing a crossing pass on a breakaway.
Taylor Bowen and Abell broke away down the field in the final 30 seconds of the first 15-minute extra session before Bowen passed left to Abell, who slid the ball past a charging keeper and into the right side of the cage.
Jackie Best staked Frostburg to a 1-0 lead, finishing on the backpost off a corner in the 34th minute.
Yore knocked home a loose ball on a scramble off a corner to knot the game at 1-all with just 4:06 to play in regulation and ultimately force the extra session.
McDaniel finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots but Jacqueline Gover made 10 stops for the Bobcats.
The Green Terror also held a 17-10 edge in penalty corners.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
