Kane victory leads way to win at Hershey

HERSHEY, Pa. – Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) carded a one-under par 70 notch a victory to lead McDaniel to a team win at the Hershey Cup in men's golf action on Sunday and Monday.

The Green Terror posted a tournament-low round of 300 in Monday's second round to win the 36-hole by 10 strokes. McDaniel outdistanced second place St. John Fisher, ranked fifth in the latest GolfWold/Nike Golf Division III Coaches Poll, by six strokes on Monday after holding a four-shot advantage on Sunday, winning with a total score of 606.

The Green Terror carded a round of 306 and trailed Franklin & Marshall by five stokes after Sunday's first round – a round played in nearly perfect conditions.

Kane slept on the lead, tied with Rochester's Nick Palladino with rounds of 73 on Sunday before the McDaniel sophomore fired a the only round of the tournament under par to finish with a 36-hole score of 143 and win the individual title by six strokes.

Mike Filler (Baltimore, Md./Open Bible Christian Academy) finished fourth in the field with a score of 151, firing a 74 on Sunday before carding a round of 77 on Monday.

James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) bounded back from a round of 81 on Sunday to fire a round of 74 in the second round, finishing tied for 11th with a score of 155.

Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) posted a 36-hole total of 157 to finish tied for 19th. He posted a round of 78 in the first round before carding a round of 79 on Monday.

Steven Tanen (Laurel Hallow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) each finished with 36-hole totals of 160 to place 33rd. Tanen posted a round of 81 on Sunday and a round of 79 on Monday. Mewhirter, playing as an individual, carded a first-round score of 82 before shooting a round of 78 on Monday.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
