ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) carded a round of 80 to lead McDaniel on Saturday at its own men's golf invitational.
The Green Terror carded a round of 328 in what was scheduled to be a 36-hole tournament but Sunday's second round was cancelled due to unplayable course conditions in the morning and the forecast for continued rain all day. The squad finished tied for eighth place while the B-Team posted a round of 332 to place 11th. St. John Fisher won the 18-team tournament by two strokes with a round of 305.
In a day of progressively worsening conditions, McDaniel had afternoon tee times for both its A- and B-Teams. Only York (Pa.) (315) and Franklin & Marshall (324) shot better rounds in the afternoon.
Steven Tanen (Laurel Hallow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) led the B-Team, matching Kane for a 16th-place finish.
Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) finished 24th with a round of 81 for the A-Team while James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) turned in a round of 83 to finish 41st.
Mike Filler (Baltimore, Md./Open Bible Christian Academy) and Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) rounded out the top five with rounds of 84 to finish tied for 49th.
Kyle Chittim (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) matched Norwitz's round for the B-Team. Andrew Gordon (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) posted a round of 84.
Mason Woolford and Colton Heisey rounded out the B-Team with rounds of 87 and 90, respectively.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Elizabethtown Spring Invitational on Thurday. Tee time is 12 p.m.
