HERSHEY, Pa. – Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) finished second to lead McDaniel to the team title at the Penn State-Harrisburg Invitational in men's cross country action on Friday.
As a team, the Green Terror took home five of the top six spots but finished with a perfect score of 15 with the top five scoring places. Albright's Chad Bomgardner won the meet as part of an incomplete team in a time of 27:49.8.
Merkel crossed in a time of 28:09.6 to lead the quintet of McDaniel finishers across the line.
Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) was third in a time of 28:12.7 while Calvin Ball (Wesminster, Md./Westminster) crossed fourth in a time of 28:21.7.
Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) finished fifth (28:45.6) while John Alexander (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) was sixth (29:02.5)
Alex Panagakos (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made his 8K debut with a time of 30:00.6 to finish 10th.
Kyle Crouse (Keymar, Md./Francis Scott Key) rounded out the McDaniel entries in 22nd place with a time of 32:44.3.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Hornet Harrier at Kernstown Battlefield on Saturday, Oct. 11.
