Yore breaks up shutout

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall built a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-1 Centennial Conference (CC) victory over McDaniel on Wednesday.

Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored the lone goal for the Green Terror (6-3, 2-1 CC), who had its five-game winning streak snapped.

Sydney Cole and Maria Guarisco led the seventh-ranked Diplomats (9-1, 3-1 CC) with a goal and an assist each.

Cole finished across the mouth of the goal off a pass in from Lauren Eastman to stake Franklin & Marshall to a 1-0 lead at the 10:24 mark.

Guarisco doubled the advantage nearly 13 minutes later, backhanding a Cole hard pass in from the right side.

Sarah Powell turned and fired from the top of the arc in the 34th minute for a 3-0 halftime lead.

Guarisco found Audrey Buckman on a breakaway for 4-0 lead in the 68th minute.

Yore converted a breakaway of her own, sliding the ball past a diving keeper to break up the shutout with 40.1 seconds left.

Caila White (Delmar, Md./Delmar) made five saves for McDaniel.

The Diploamts finished with advantages of 14-2 in shots and 15-3 in penalty corners.

McDaniel returns to action at No. 6 Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
