Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) scored with 48 seconds left in regulation to tie the game before scoring with 4:35 remaining in double overtime to defeat McDaniel 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.
Seniors Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) and Danielle DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) each scored a goal for the Green Terror (8-8, 3-6 CC) in their final collegiate home games.
Jackie O'Connell tallied two of the three goals of the Shorewomen (4-10, 3-6 CC), who were outshot 26-14 on the day but got nine saves from Stephanie Harryman in goal.
Trailing 2-1, O'Connell finished a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper in the 70th minute to force overtime.
The teams battled through 25 minutes of scoreless extra time before Elizabeth Davis converted a penalty stroke in the 96th minute for the game-winner.
O'Connell staked Washington to a 1-0 lead just 6:11 into the game.
McDaniel evened the game at the break when Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) found Meszler in the 29th minute.
Reynolds make it a two-assist day, hitting DeColli in the 57th minute for a 2-1 advantage.
McDaniel, which was officially eliminated from the CC playoff race with the loss, concludes the regular season at No.6 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
