Haab tallies pair of helpers

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg scored the final four goals of the game to overcome a 2-0 deficit and defeat McDaniel 4-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Tuesday.

Lara Haab (Gladwyne, Pa./Country Day School of Sacred Heart) led the Green Terror (7-6, 2-4 CC) with two assists, tipping a pair of long passes early in each half that resulted in goals.

Erica Barbuto scored twice for the Bullets (8-4, 3-3 CC), leading the rally to move into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings with four games to play.

Trailing 2-0 when Julie Little (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) tapped in a shot on the backside post at the 40:41 mark, the Gettysburg rally started 45 seconds later.

Off a corner, Alex Calder played a ball up to the middle of the circle, where Barbuto was able to finish to draw the visitors within one.

Three minutes later, Hannah Fitzgerald converted on a scramble in front of the cage to even the game at 2-all.

With 5:46 to play. Barbuto was able to tip in a ball through the middle of the circle by Liz Baron to break the deadlock.

In the 69th minute, Tori Sankey tapped in a long hit by Baron off a corner to set the final margin.

Just 6:09 into the game, Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) was able to finish past a drawn out keeper. After a strong save on her shot, Haley VanNostrand (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) regained possession outside the circle and played the ball back in where Haab tipped the ball and a waiting Meszler finished for a 1-0 lead.

Off a corner in the 41st minute, Danielle DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) blasted a ball from the far wing that Haab redirected to a waiting Little to double the advantage.

Gettysburg finished with a 16-13 edge in shots and 15-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Caila White (Delmar, Md./Delmar) and Alexis Bralow made six saves apiece for their respective teams.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
