Messersmith records hat trick

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - McDaniel jumped out to a 2-0 lead en route to a 5-2 victory over William Paterson in non-conference field hockey action at Mary Washington on Saturday.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) recorded a hat trick to lead the Green Terror (2-1), who finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots. Messersmith added an assist to her three goals while Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) chipped in two goals and two assists.

Aubrey Pellerin led the Pioneers (1-3) with both of their goals.

Messersmith finished off the first of Corson's two helpers just 9:55 into the game before knocking home an unassisted goal with 5:59 to play in the opening half.

Corson returned the favor, finishing off a Messersmith feed in the 45th minute.

Pellerin broke up the shutout at the 49:09 mark before Messersmith reestablished the three-goal edge directly off a Corson penalty corner 1:56 later.

Pellerin notched her second of the contest just 1:14 later before Corson set the final margin off a Julie Little (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) assist in the 66th minute.

The Green Terror returns to action at Mary Washington on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m.
