Messersmith tallies 10th

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall, ranked eighth in the latest NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll, scored once in each half to defeat McDaniel 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) tallied her team-leading 10th goal of the season to lead the Green Terror (3-4, 0-2 CC), who got eight saves from Caila White (Delmar, Md./Delmar).

Kristen Zublin tallied the game-winner for the Diplomats (5-1, 2-0 CC), scoring just 20 seconds after Messersmith tied the game.

Knotted a 1-all after Messersmith deflected a Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) shot off a defender's stick and into the cage at the 51:15 mark, Chelsey Talhelm led a breakaway and centered a pass to Zublin, who finished on an open cage.

Directly off a corner in the 11th minute, Steph McDonald knocked home Dana Venditti's insert to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) appeared to tip-in the tying goal approximately five minutes later off a play in from Messersmith on a corner but the goal was disallowed.

Avery Koep made two saves for the Diplomats.

McDaniel returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
