Lillie finishes second

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) carded a two-round score of 147 to finish second overall and lead McDaniel to a team victory at its own Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic in men's golf action on Saturday and Sunday.

The Green Terror combined to fire a 308 on Saturday and hold a seven-stroke lead on the field. McDaniel backed that round up with a 297 at The Bridges Golf Club in a cooler, wetter second round on Sunday to finish with a 605 and outdistance the field by 18 strokes. Dickinson was second overall with a 623 (316-307).

The Green Terror's B-Team was 10th in the 11-team field with a 659, improving 23 strokes from Saturday to Sunday. McDaniel carded a 341 on Saturday and a 318 on Sunday – the fourth-best second round.

Lillie fired an even-par 72 on Sunday – capping 10 rounds in the 70s by the A-Team – after carding a 75 on Saturday to miss medalist honors by one stroke to Susquehanna's Stephen Welkie (72-74).

Steven Tanen (Laurel Hallow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) added a top-five finish, posting a score of 152 to finish tied for fourth. Tanen posted a 73 in the second round after carding a 79 on Saturday.

Kyle Chittim (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished tied for sixth with a score of 154. Chittim followed up a Saturday round of 79 with a second-round tally of 75 while Mewhirter turned in matching rounds of 77.

Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) rounded out the starting five in 11th place with a 155 (77-78).

Alex Matos (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) led the B-Team with a round of 156 to finish tied for 12th, posting a 77 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.

Tim LaSarso Jr. (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) finished with a score of 163 (85-78) while Kevin Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) turned in a career-low round of 79 on Sunday to finish with a 170.

Wes Talbot-Wendlandt (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) finished with a 171 (89-82) while Dominic Seelig (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) carded a 172 (90-82).

The Green Terror opens the spring season at the Myrtle Beach Shootout on Mar. 19.
