Riordon notches second career hat trick to lead McDaniel to victory

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Hereford) recorded her second collegiate hat trick as part of McDaniel's 4-1 non-conference field hockey victory at Eastern Mennonite on Sunday.

The Green Terror (3-0) capped a two-game weekend trip to Virginia with a four-goal outburst, giving the squad seven on the weekend and the first 3-0 start since 2004 when McDaniel started 4-0.

Janessa Derstine broke up the shutout for the Royals (1-3), scoring with just 45 seconds to play.

Riordon rebounded a blocked shot and tapped it home for a 1-0 lead at the 14:03 before doubling the advantage 4:55 later off a Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) feed.

In the 51st minute, the senior completed the team's first three-goal individual performance since she recorded a hat trick as a sophomore against Swarthmore on Oct. 3, 2009.

Danielle DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) fed Riordon for the 3-0 lead.

Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) found Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) nearly 10 minutes later for a 4-0 advantage.

McDaniel returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
