Pair of Riordon tallies helps McDaniel to 3-1 win at Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – A goal in the final minutes of the first half and another one in the opening minutes of the second half helped carry McDaniel to a 3-1 victory at Roanoke in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday.

Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Hereford) scored two of the goals for the Green Terror (2-0), who finished the game with a 16-3 advantage in shots.

Mariel Hunt tallied the lone goal for the Maroons (0-4), who got eight saves from goalkeeper Cristina Scichilone.

Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) was able to finish a pass from Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) with just 3:46 to play in the first half, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) found Riordon 1:21 into the second half to double the advantage before Hunt drew the hosts within one in the 44th minute.

Riordon set the final margin, tallying with 44 seconds to play.

McDaniel returns to action at Eastern Mennonite on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m.
