Zamostny notches pair of top-10 showings to lead McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) finished third in the 5,000-meter race and seventh in the 3,000-meter race to lead McDaniel to a third-place finish at the 2011 Green Terror Challenge in men's cross country action on Saturday.
As a team, the Green Terror combined its efforts from the two races to score 120 points and finish third among the seven teams that scored in both events.
In the 5K race, Zamostny was the second collegiate runner across the line, placing third overall in a time of 17:15.00.
Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) finished 17th overall in a time of 18:07.50.
Matthew Peterson (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood) crossed 32nd in a time of 18:55.70 while Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) placed 34th with a time of 19:05.70.
In the day's second race, Zamostny doubled back to place seventh on the wet course, finishing in a time of 10:01.10.
Caleb Phillips (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished 14th in a time of 10:29.00.
Merkel, Peterson and Shriver also pulled off the double, placing 19th (10:40.50), 31st (11:08.70) and 40th (11:32.90), respectively.
Dylan Ryan (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park and Oak Forest) placed 42nd in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 11:39.90.
McDaniel returns to action at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York (Pa.) on Saturday. The first race begins at 4 p.m.
