McDaniel finishes second at second Twilight Meet
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Katie Corson
(Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) recorded four top-three finishes to
lead McDaniel to a second-place finish at its own home twilight
meet in women's outdoor track and field action on Wednesday.
As a team, the Green Terror amassed 103 points to finish second
only to Navy, which tallied 124 points at the nine-team meet. The
hosts racked up 15 top-five individual showings across the 14
events in which athletes were entered.
Corson won the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.31 seconds –
one of three victories recorded by McDaniel athletes. Corson
notched Centennial
Conference (CC) qualifiers in five of the six events in which
she competed, including the 100 hurdles.
She was also second, hitting conference marks in both the high
jump (1.40 meters) and long jump (4.58), and placed third in the
400 hurdles with a CC-qualifying time of 1:09.66.
Corson was sixth in the javelin, reaching the conference
standard with a throw of 17.74 meters.
Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) and Emily Peoples
(Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) rounded out the victors for the Green
Terror.
Garnett won the 400 with a personal-best time of 1:00.03,
ranking third on the program's all-time performer list. She added a
fifth-place, conference-qualifying time of 27.60 in the 200.
Peoples was the first collegiate finisher across the line in the
5,000, notching a time of 19:35.40.
Amber
Slater (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was second, leading a
quartet of McDaniel runners to the line with a time of 5:56.54.
Lauren
Murray (6:08.94), Phoebe McHale
(Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (6:22.85) and Forest
Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (6:32.73) rounded out
the group.
Laura
Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington) and Joy Chand
(Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) were third (13:46.30) and
fourth (13:50.53), respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The duo also finished 4-5 in the 800.
Sarah
Byron (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) crossed third in the 100
(13.66) and fourth in the 200 (27.53).
Kelsey
Dickman (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) led the way in the throws with
fifth-place showing in the shot put, tossing a distance of 11.27
meters.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Widener Invitational
on Friday.
