McDaniel wins 4x200 in final action before conferences
CARLISLE, Pa. – James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) anchored the winning 4x200-meter relay and finished second in the 300 to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson in men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.
The Green Terror amassed 42 points at the 19-team meet. Dickinson won its own invitational with 110 points, outdistancing Keystone and Gettysburg by 36 points.
Ways wrapped up the quartet that completed the 800 meters in a time of 1:36.18, joining Joe Rollins (Temple Hills, Md./Surratsville), Jerome Hill (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) and Trevor Crest (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal).
Ways was second in the 300 with a time of 37.62 – 0.27 seconds off the pace of the race winner Brandon Barrett (Merchant Marine). Juris Eyler (Middletown, Md./Middletown) followed Ways across with a time of 38.14.
Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished sixth in the 55 hurdles finals with a time of 8.55 seconds after qualifying for the finals with the same time, which was fifth in the preliminaries. Nichols was also 12th in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters. Both marks hit Centennial Conference (CC) standards.
Hill was ninth in the 55 prelims with a time of 6.77 seconds, missing the finals by 0.04 seconds. Rollins was 11th in the same event with a time of 6.80. Crest rounded out the trio of event qualifiers in 23rd (6.99).
Rollins added a third-place showing in the long jump, leaping a CC-qualifying distance of 6.29 meters.
C.J. Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) crossed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:01.11.
Ken Polk (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) finished fifth in the triple jump, hitting the CC standard with a jump of 11.97 meters.
The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championships hosted by Haverford on Saturday.
