Quinn wins triple jump to lead eight top 10s for McDaniel
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Fonati Quinn (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) won the triple jump to lead McDaniel at the Susquehanna Invitational in men's indoor track and field action on Sunday.
Quinn jumped a distance of 13.32 meters in his final attempt to win the event by 0.28 meters to pace the Green Terror, who recorded eight top-10 finishes at the non-scoring meet.
The top 4x200-meter relay team of Joe Rollins (Temple Hills, Md./Surratsville), James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), Quinn and Juris Eyler (Middletown, Md./Middletown) finished fifth with a time of 1:36.54 while Jerome Hill (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern), Trevor Crest (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal), Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Rick Gonzalez (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) crossed eighth overall in a time of 1:37.98.
Hill added eighth-place showings in the 55 and 200, finishing with Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying times of 6.85 and 24.08 seconds, respectively. The 55 time ranks him 10th on the Green Terror's all-time performer list.
Nichols hit a pair of CC marks, finishing sixth in the finals of the 55 hurdles (9.36 seconds) and tied for ninth in the pole vault, clearing 3.50 meters. Nichols finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds.
C.J. Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) crossed ninth in the mile with a CC-qualifying time of 4:33.43.
Rollins and Naper finished just outside the top 10 to add additional conference qualifiers. Rollins was 11th in the 200 (24.32) while Naper was 11th in the 800 (2:03.19).
Chuck Kronmiller (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) hit the CC mark in the shot put with a toss of 11.45 meters while Eyler (12th, 6.90), Ways (17th, 7.06) and Crest (19th, 7.08) all qualified in the 55.
Eric Spioch (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Gonzalez rounded out the CC qualifiers, hitting the necessary time in the 55 hurdles with times of 9.87 and 9.95, respectively.
The Green Terror returns to action at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson on Saturday.
