Box Score Messersmith notches game-winner
CARLISLE, Pa. – After an even first half, McDaniel outshot Dickinson by 10 in the second half and netted the tiebreaking goal in the final 10 minutes for a 2-1 Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey win on Wednesday.
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) broke the deadlock with just 9:30 on the clock for the Green Terror (7-3, 3-2 CC), who finished the game with a 30-20 advantage in shots, including 19-9 in the decisive second half.
Katy Schlechtweg led the Red Devils (3-7, 0-5 CC) in goal with 15 saves.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made nine saves for McDaniel.
Tied at 1-all, Messersmith drove into the circle and fired home a shot to break a two-game skid for the Green Terror.
Natalie Price (Elkton, Md./Elkton) scored off a Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Hereford) shot and save to stake McDaniel to a 1-0 lead just 12:09 into the game.
Nearly eight minutes later, Lauren Wyman tipped in a Katie Mersky shot to even the game.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Bridgewater on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
