Thomson makes 12 saves

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The McDaniel defense withstood a barrage of shots and capitalized with the game's lone goal for a 1-0 win over Haverford in a critical Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey game on Saturday.

Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) backstopped a stalwart defense for the Green Terror (10-5, 4-4 CC), making 12 saves.

The Fords (7-7, 4-4 CC) finished with a 30-12 advantage in shots and 25-7 advantage in penalty corners but could not dent the McDaniel defense, dropping into a three-way tie with the Green Terror and Swarthmore in sixth place – one game out of the fifth and final playoff spot with two games remaining.

After a scoreless first half, Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Hereford) found Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) off a corner in the 45th minute for the game's lone goal.

Sydney Hyder made five stops for the Fords.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
