Kovalcheck fires career-low 142 to finish second
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills,
Pa./Truman) carded matching rounds of one-under par 71 to finish
second and lead McDaniel to a victory at the Guy W. Kuhn
Invitational hosted by Allegheny in men's golf action on
Sunday and Monday.
The Green Terror was one shot off the lead with a 296 in third
place after Sunday's round before posting a 298 on Monday to
finish tied with Carnegie Mellon for with a 594. McDaniel was
awarded the team title on the fifth-man score from the second
round.
Kovalcheck finished with a career-low 36-hole score of 142 to
finish one shot behind the Tartans' Ian Bangor, who fired a
70 on Monday to break the first-round deadlock with Kovalcheck.
Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) finished tied for
fifth overall with a score of 146, following up his first-round
score of 74 with a 72 on Monday.
Logan Connaughton (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) tied for 11th
place overall with a two-day total of 150. He carded a round of
even-par 72 on the 6,688-yard Meadville Country Club on Sunday
before posting a 78 in round two.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) finished with two
rounds in the 70s, carding a 79 on Sunday and 77 on Monday to
finish with a 156.
Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) posted matching
rounds of 80 to finish with a 160. His 80 on Monday was two strokes
better than CMU's fifth man to give his team the title.
Kyle Chittim (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), playing as an
individual, registered a two-round score of 156 in his first
collegiate action. He recorded a 76 on Sunday and an 81 on
Monday.
McDaniel returns to action at the Rehoboth Beach Fall
Invitational hosted by Penn on Monday.
