Kovalcheck leads Green Terror to 16th-place showing at D1
tournament
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills,
Pa./Truman) carded matching rounds of 77 to lead McDaniel to a
16th-place finish at the Navy Fall Classic in men's golf
action on Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Terror combined to shoot a two-round total of 634,
posting a 311 on Saturday and a 323 on Sunday. Delaware won the
16-team tournament with a score of 569 (274-295).
After ideal conditions on Saturday, the field faced rainy and
much cooler conditions for Sunday's second round – a
round in which team scores averaged nearly eight strokes
higher.
Kovalcheck's total of 154 was part of a six-way tie for
49th place overall in the 89-man field.
Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) finished two strokes
behind Kovalcheck, tied for 57th after firing a 77 in the second
round to follow up his opening-round score of 79.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) posted a 160 (75-85)
to finish tied for 74th.
Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallston) and Logan Connaughton
(Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) tied for 86th with scores of 167.
Merrill followed up a first-round score of 80 by carding an 87 on
Sunday. Connaughton posted an 83 in the first round and an 84 on
Sunday.
Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished 83rd as an
individual with a score of 166 (81-85).
McDaniel returns to action at the Kuhn Invitational hosted by
Allegheny on Sunday and Monday.
