McDaniel finishes second at CMU

Green Terror records nine rounds in 70s to fire 612

APOLLO, Pa. – For the second consecutive tournament, Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) fired a two-day score of 151, bettering his career-low round in Saturday's first round to lead McDaniel to a second-place finish at the Edward Jones Shootout in men's golf action on Saturday and Sunday.

Once again competing in a 36-hole tournament against some of the top teams in the region, the Green Terror combined to shoot a 612 at the par-70 Links at Spring Church behind nine rounds in the 70s and five top-20 finishes.

McDaniel carded a 305 on Saturday to sit one shot off the pace of Washington & Jefferson. On Sunday, the Presidents once again bettered the Green Terror by a stroke, firing a 306 compared to a 307 to win the 11-team event by two shots.

Carnegie Mellon (619), Rochester (622) and St. John Fisher (622) rounded out the top five teams.

Bowman fired a career-low 72 on Saturday but finished with a 79 on Sunday to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place.

Keyed by a 69 in the first round, Point Park's Darin Kolvalski took the medalist honors with a three-over par 143.

Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) and Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hill, Pa./Truman) finished as part of a three-way tie for ninth place overall with matching scores of 153. Campbell posted a 78 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday while Kovalcheck shot a 76 in the first round and a 77 in the second round.

KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) finished two strokes behind the duo with a 155 to place 14th. Mazurek posted a 79 on Saturday before firing a 76 in the second round.

Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), playing as an individual, registered an 82 in the first round before posting a career-low 75 on Sunday.

Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) turned in an 88 on Saturday before having to withdraw from Sunday's round with illness.

McDaniel returns to action at the Ursinus Invitational on Tuesday.
