McDaniel finishes sixth in own invite

Kovalcheck posts 75 on Sunday to pace Green Terror

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hill, Pa./Truman) carded a second-round 75 to finish with a two-day total of 157 and lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at its own invitational at the Bridges Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.

Battling cold and breezy conditions both days, the Green Terror posted a two-round total of 649 as a team, registering a 322 on Saturday and a 327 on Sunday in the 15-team invitational.

Wesley won the team title with a two-day total of 621 behind a tournament-low round of 308 on Sunday. Susquehanna finished one stroke off the lead with a 622, carding a 312 on Sunday after leading the tournament with a 310 on Saturday.

Rochester was third with a score of 626 (312-314) while New York University (636 [312-324]) and Franklin & Marshall (639 [320-319]) rounded out the top five teams.

NYU's  Mike Leibfried won the individual title with a 148 that included a one-over par 73 on Sunday. Leibfried finished two strokes ahead of a quartet of individuals, who all tied for second.

Kovalcheck followed up his round of 82 on Saturday with a 75 on Sunday that included a 34 on the back nine to finish tied for 14th place overall.

KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) finished tied for 18th overall in the 78-person field with a two-round total of 161, firing 79 in the first round and 82 in the second round.

Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) posted a 163 (78-85) while Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) carded a 168 (83-85).

Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) finished with a 172 (87-85).

Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished with a 170 (87-83), playing as an individual. Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallson) and Conor O'Maille (Frederick, Md./Gonzaga) rounded out the Green Terror individuals with round of 179.

McDaniel returns to action at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship at Hershey Country Club, site of the 2010 NCAA Division III men's golf championship, on Sunday and Monday. Action begins at 8:30 a.m. both days.
