Box Score Blue Jays notch 7-1 victory to punch playoff ticket
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Eric Suter had a hand in the first three Johns Hopkins goals to propel her team to a 7-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Suter recorded a pair of assists on the first two goals before scoring the third for the 17th-ranked Blue Jays (14-3, 7-2 CC), officially securing the team's spot in next week's CC tournament.
Tia Scott (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) scored her first goal of the season for the Green Terror (3-9-3, 2-7 CC) to break up the shutout in the 88th minute.
Jan Woolley (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) made 14 saves – the most for the sophomore keeper since making 21 in the season opener at St. Mary's (Md.).
Just 1:25 into the contest, Paulina Goodman finished from Suter, who carried the ball up the field and made a short cross in front of the net.
In the 18th minute, Pamela Vranis finished off the hands of a diving McDaniel keeper after Suter passed the ball from the center of the field to the left.
In the 22nd minute, Suter headed home an Erin Stafford ball directly off a corner.
Stafford stretched the lead to 4-0 at the break, knocking home a rebound off the post with 21 seconds to play in the first half.
Three goals 19:01 apart in the second half stretched the lead to 7-0 with 14:13 to play before Hilary Hanus (Hockessin, Del./Cab Calloway School of the Arts) carried the ball down the left side of the field and hit Scott, who finished from short range with 2:51 to play.
The Blue Jays finished with a 38-8 advantage in shots and 9-0 edge in corners.
The Green Terror concludes the season at Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
