Box Score McDaniel plays fifth-ranked Bears to closest CC affair in 6-2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Jennifer Bayzick recorded two goals and
two assists to lead No. 5 Urisnus to a 6-2 victory over McDaniel in
Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.
Megan Yoder added a two goals and an assist for the Bears (8-1,
5-0 CC), who finished with advantages of 27-4 and 22-3 in shots and
penalty corners, respectively.
Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) tallied her first
two-goal game, scoring both goals for the Green Terror (2-6, 1-2
CC) off feeds from Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney).
Bayzick had a hand in both first-half goals for Ursinus, finding
Bridget Resetco on a corner in the 13th minute before deflecting
home a 40-yard hit by Michelle Wimmer in the 31st minutes.
Off a restart a minute into the second half, Messersmith found
Meszler in front of the cage where the freshman tapped the ball
home to make it a 2-1 game just 1:12 into the period.
Yoder made her way around a defender on a corner in the 38th
minute to stretch the visitor's lead back to two.
Mesler redirected a Messersmith hit in from the top of the arc
nearly four minutes later to once again trim the deficit to one but
Bayzick responded 33 seconds later to push the lead back to
two.
Wimmer made it a one-goal, one-assist day with 8:48 on the clock
to push the lead to 5-2 before Yoder dribbled to the left post and
hit from short range to set the final margin 2:16 later.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Pasadena) made nine saves
for McDaniel.
Ursinus, which entered the game outscoring its first CC
opponents 34-1, registered its fewest goals in a conference game
this season.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Stevenson on
Thursday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
