Box Score Spartans tally three times in first half for 3-1 win at
McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Megan Spangler and
Allison Roush teamed up for a pair of goals 8:27
apart, breaking a 1-all deadlock and lifting York (Pa.) to a 3-1
victory over McDaniel in non-conference field hockey action on
Monday.
Kaitlin Boerman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) drew
the Green Terror (3-6) even with her fourth goal of the season but
the Spartans (6-4) had the answer.
After Boerman's breakaway goal off a Jessica Largent
(Denton, Md./North Caroline) long pass at the 23:15 mark,
Roush sent a pass through traffic that Spangler tapped home for a
one-goal advantage 49 seconds later.
Off a corner in the 33rd minute, Spangler played a short pass
from the top of the arc that Roush rocketed home for the final
margin.
Katie Dawkins staked York to a 1-0 lead,
finishing a Casey Lawrence assist at the 9:39
mark.
Both teams finished with 11 shots with 10 of McDaniel's coming
in the scoreless second half.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake)
made seven saves for the Green Terror while Claire
Rekitzke had six stops for the Spartans.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on
Saturday. Game time is 5 p.m.
