Green Terror card 302 in morning round
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - K.J. Mazurek (Rumson,
N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) shot a two-day total of 149 to
lead McDaniel to a ninth-place finish at the Rehoboth Beach Fall
Inivitional hosted by Penn in men's golf action on Monday.
Playing against a field of mostly Division I teams, the Green
Terror fired a round of 302 in the morning and was just two shots
off the lead before carding a 327 in an afternoon round played in
windier conditions at Kings Creek Country Club.
Navy won the 12-team tournament behind a tournament-low 286 in
the afternoon half of the one-day, 36-hole tournament. The
Midshipmen finished with a 587 - two shots better than the host
Quakers.
Mazurek finished as part of three-way tie for 13th place
overall, tying his career-low round with a 74 in the morning
before shooting a team-best 75 in the afternoon.
Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons)
fired a career-low 68 in the morning, matching the low round shot
by any current Green Terror golfer. It was also the low round
of the tournament. Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless
Hills, Pa./Truman), who shot matching round of 80 on
Monday, has the only other sub-70 round by an active golfer, firing
his 68 last fall at the Vulcan Invitational. Smith finished in a
tie for 21st overall with a 152.
Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallston)
finished with a 169 (80-89) while Greg Bowman (Catonsville,
Md./Catonsville) carded a 172 (84-88).
Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) shot matching
rounds of 77 as an individual for a 154. Bryan Johnson
(Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished with a 187.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Vulcan Invitational
hosted by California (Pa.) on Sunday and Monday.
