Box Score Senior QB rushes for 126 and three scores against McDaniel
CARLISLE, Pa. - Ian Mitchell threw for 156
yards and a touchdown while rushing for another 126 and three
scores to lead Dickinson to a 35-7 victory over McDaniel in
Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.
The Red Devils (4-0, 2-0 CC) rushed for 256 yards as a team,
scoring at least one touchdown in each quarter.
Matt Cahill (Broomall, Pa./Haverford Twp.)
caught seven passes for 87 yards and a touchdown for the Green
Terror (2-2, 0-2 CC), who were outgained 412-231 on the day.
After a high snap on a Dickinson punt after its initial
possession, McDaniel took over at the Red Devil 16. However, the
Green Terror could net just 10 yards on five plays before its
field-goal attempt from 23 yards was blocked with 10:55 remaining
in the first quarter.
Dickinson and Mitchell needed just four plays and 59 seconds to
drive 77 yards for a 7-0 lead on a Mitchell 67-yard scamper down
the right sideline.
On the Red Devils' next possession, rushes of 17 and 13 yards by
Mitchell capped a 10-play, 70-yard march for a 14-0 lead with 2:10
showing on the first-quarter clock.
Starting on Dickinson side of midfield for the third of four
times on the day, Tom Massucci (Tabernacle,
N.J./Seneca) found Cahill for a 22-yard touchdown catch to
slice the deficit in half with 11:42 remaining in the second
quarter.
Late in the second quarter, Tim Wells broke off
a 27-yard run to move the Red Devils inside the one-yard line.
After a two-yard loss and a rush for no gain, Dickinson faced
third down with 1:44 on the clock. Three timeouts later, Mitchell
kept the ball himself and broke through the middle for a 21-7 lead
with 1:41 to play in the half.
Mitchell found Pat O'Conner for a five-yard
touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 28-7 with 8:11 to play in the
third quarter and three Tim Smith carries
accounted for the final 59 yards of a five-play, 61-yard drive that
set the final margin with 2:18 on the game clock.
Ryan Blaser (Damascus, Md./Einstein) made a
career-best 12 tackles to key the Green Terror defense while
Mike Weick (Holland, Pa./Penn Charter) and
Patrick Desmond (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added
11 stops apiece.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Juniata on Saturday.
