Box Score Hollinger makes 10 saves for McDaniel but Seahawks limit Green
Terror to one shot
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophia Esparza recorded two
goals and an assist to lead St. Mary's (Md.) to a 3-0 victory over
McDaniel in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday.
In the opener for both teams, the Seahawks (1-0) - keyed by 13
shots from Esparza - finished the day with a 19-1 advantage in the
shot column.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters
Mill) made 10 saves in net for the Green Terror (0-1),
whose lone shot came from Brittany Baer (Manchester,
Md./Westminster) in the 51st minute - a look from the
right side that sailed just high of the net.
Scoreless through the first 20 minutes, Esparza sent a pass wide
left to Liza Sitz, who bounced the ball off the
right post at the 20:28 mark to get St. Mary's on the board.
Nearly four minutes later, Esparza found the back of the net,
beating the keeper off a long Bridget McGovern
pass.
In the 58th minute, Esparza dribbled in and finished from the
right side to set the final margin.
The Seahawks added a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at Catholic on Wednesday. Game time
is 4:30 p.m.
