LANCASTER, Pa. – Juris Eyler (Middletown,
Md./Middletown) finished fourth in the 400 to lead
McDaniel at the 2009 Centennial Conference (CC) outdoor track and
field championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday
through Sunday.
As a team, the Green Terror men finished ninth with 10 points.
Haverford, by virtue of finishing 1-2-4-5-6-7 in the 5,000 meters,
won its 16th consecutive men's title with 170
points. The Fords edged second-place Dickinson by four points. The
Red Devils led by as many as 20 points late in the day Sunday,
bidding to hand Haverford its first runner-up finish in CC history,
but the Fords used a 25-point swing in the second-to-last event on
the track. Leading by six entering the 4x400-meter relay, Haverford
finished second to Dickinson's win to retain the
crown.
On the women's side, McDaniel placed ninth with 18 points.
Haverford ran away with its fourth straight title, racking up
226.75 points to outdistance second-place Johns Hopkins by 59.25
points.
Eyler improved his preliminary time by two one-hundredths of a
second and improved two spots to notch the Green Terror's top
finish at the meet.
Eyler was the only individual to earn points for McDaniel but was
also a part of two of the three relays that also registered
points.
Eyler ran the second leg of both the 4x100 (45.73) and 4x400
(3:39.85) relays, which both finished eighth.
Rick Gonzalez (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and
Alex Reiser (Washington, D.C./McLean School of
Maryland) were also part of both foursomes.
Rob Kelvey (Westminster, Md./Westminster) anchored
the 4x800 relay that finished sixth with a time of
8:12.01.
Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) led
the women's team with a fifth-place finish in the 400,
posting a time of 1:01.45 after running a season-best time of
1:00.46 in Saturday's prelims.
Davidhizar finished sixth with 2,941 points while Balsamo was
eighth with 2,522 points.

hurdles (16.87) and as the anchor for the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
The shorter relay opened day three with a seventh-place finish
(53.68) while the same foursome of Garnett, Kristin Duling
(Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), Emma Nichols
(Myersville, Md./Middletown) and Davidhizar placed sixth
in the longer relay (4:17.89).
