ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Greg Bowman (Catonsville,
Md./Catonsville) shot a round of 78 on Saturday to lead
McDaniel to a fifth-place finish at its own invitational in
men's golf action at The Bridges Golf Club.
Originally scheduled to be a 36-hole tournament, a Sunday afternoon
thunderstorm halted competition. After a 30-minute delay, the
course was deemed unplayable for a length of time that would not
have permitted the teams still on the course to complete the second
round before darkness.
Despite six teams completing their rounds during the morning
session – a group that included the Green Terror, the
decision was made to officially shorten the tournament to 18 holes
and count only Saturday's scores for all 15 teams in the
field.
McDaniel finished with a team score of 318 on Saturday. Carnegie
Mellon and Susquehanna both fired 310 but the Tartans were awarded
the team title after comparing the fifth score.
Franklin & Marshall fired a round of 314 to finish third while
St. John Fisher was fourth with a score of 317.
Three individuals, including a pair of Crusaders, carded an
even-par 72 on Saturday. After comparing cards, Vincent
DeMaio (Susquehanna) was awarded the individual
championship on the third handicap hole.
Elmira's Nick Decker was second and
Susquehanna's Mitch Mercer was
third.
Bowman's round tied him for 15th
overall.
Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman) fired
a round of 79 to place 21st while Alex Campbell
(Howell, N.J./Wall) posted a round of 80 to tied for
22nd place overall.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and
Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) each
carded an 81.
Playing as an individual, Taylor Massie (Southington,
Conn./St. Paul Catholic) posted a score of 82.
Conor O'Maille (Frederick, Md./Gonzaga)
recorded a 91 and Chris Merrill (Kingsville,
Md./Fallston) registered a 95, both playing as
individuals.
