GETTYSBURG Pa. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills,
Pa./Truman) won his first collegiate tournament, firing a
round of 73 to lead McDaniel to a first-place finish at the
Gettysburg Spring Invitational in men's golf action on
Tuesday.
Kovalcheck was one of three players to card a one-over par 73 but
was awarded medalist honors on the second handicap
hole.
As a team, the Green Terror combined to shoot a 302 in a 12-team
field at The Links at Gettysburg, outdistancing Messiah,
Susquehanna and York (Pa.), which all tied for second place, by 15
strokes.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) posted
his second top-5 finish in two spring events, carding a career-best
74 to finish fourth overall.
Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) posted a
75 to finish tied for fifth overall in the 62-player field.
Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons)
finished in a tie for 18th with a round of 80 while
Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) posted an
83.
Playing as an individual, Chris Merrill (Kingsville,
Md./Fallston) posted a round of 85.
McDaniel returns to action at its own spring invitational at The
Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa., on Saturday and Sunday. Tee
time is 8:30 a.m. both days.
