Mazurek shoots one-over to finish tied for second
BELLE VERNON, Pa. - K.J. Mazurek (Rumson,
N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) shot a career-low 36-hole score of
144 to lead McDaniel to a fifth-place finish at the Vulcan
Invitational hosted by California (Pa.) in men's golf action on
Sunday and Monday.
Competing against some of the top Division II and III teams in
the region, the Green Terror carded a two-round total of 615 over
the two courses of Cedarbrook Golf Course. The squad recorded a
season-low 299 at the shorter, par 71 Red Course on Sunday before
finishing with a 316 on the longer, par 72 Gold Course on Monday.
Division II Indiana (Pa.) registered a 581, including a 283 in
the opening round, to win the 13-team tournament by 19 stokes.
McDaniel was the second of four Division III teams in the field,
finishing behind Washington & Jefferson (610) but ahead of
Allegheny (616) and Carnegie Mellon (619).
Mazurek shot even-par in Sunday's round to finish round one in
tie for sixth place before firing a one-over 73 on Monday to vault
to second place.
Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman)
shot one-under 70 in the opening round before carding a 77 on
Monday to finish with a 147 and in a tie for eighth place.
Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) and
Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) each
carded a 79 in the opening round. Campbell ended the two-day
tournament with a 161 while Smith finished with a 165.
Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallston)
registered a 176 for the two rounds.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Gettysburg Fall
Invitational on Oct. 13. Tee time is 1 p.m.
