Box Score Green Terror notches 3-2 win over Swarthmore
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Lindsay Riordon (Monkton,
Md./Hereford) recorded all three goals for her first
collegiate hat trick, lifting McDaniel to a 3-2 victory over
Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on
Saturday.
The Green Terror (4-6, 2-1 CC) built a 2-0 halftime lead before
Riordon completed her hat trick - the first by a McDaniel player
since Michelle Fluty accomplished the feat against Susquehanna on
Sept. 6, 2006.
Catie Meador and Joslyn Young
tallied goals for the Garnet (4-6, 1-3 CC), who got four saves from
Gina Grubb in goal.
Kaitlin Boerman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake)
crossed a ball in front of the cage that Riordon lifted into the
side of the goal for a 1-0 lead at the 22:46 mark.
Nearly three minutes later, Riordon put home a Katherine
Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) shot-and-save on a
breakaway.
Meador cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 44th minute, finishing a
Sophia Agathis pass seconds after she entered the
game.
A long Jessica Largent (Denton, Md./North
Caroline) pass was tipped up and in by Riordon for the a
3-1 advantage at the 56:26 mark.
A Young penalty stroke set the final margin with 37.7 seconds to
play.
The Green Terror finished with advantages of 13-8 and 12-9 in
shots and penalty corners, respectively.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake)
made three saves for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday.
